Behind the Hub Theatre/Newtown Neighbourhood Centre is also a concentrated pocket of stencil graffiti. I don’t know if it is one prolific artist or many but there are some wild images. Again they can be in a series of the same stencil, one offs or two or more stencils that seem to go together. Check the Wiki article for the details. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stencil_graffiti

Newtown also has a great amount of what I will call “Urban Planning Art”. This is art that is built into the building and streets; some of it is almost the statues of old with a modern twist. There are many mosaic and inlaid works that give this central part of Newtown its artsy approach. Across the road at the Newtown Station and surrounds it’s still a bit ratty, though the ‘reno’ is underway and who knows what’s next?

There is some old school graffiti but next to the wheat-posting and stencils it is starting to (for me anyway) pale in its significance against the fresher approach.
Either way get out and see it and even better make it.
